ccTLD
country-code Top Level Domain

two-character TLDs established for each country of the world.

CNO
Abbreviation for .com, .net and .org domains.
Core
Core is the registry where you can register and administer CNO domains.
Denic
The german registry where you can register and administer .de domains.
DMW
Domain Management Web 
frontend component of DomiNIC4domains for registrars, ISPs, reseller etc..
DNS
Domain Name System 

The Domain Name System performs the assignment of easy to remember domain names to the nasty IP-addresses, which are required by machines.

Extensible Provisioning Protocol
Ein flexibles Netzwerkprotokoll, welches das Anlegen von Objekten in den Registrierungsdatenbanken z.B. der NICs ermöglicht.

gTLD
generic Top Level Domain 
generic TLDs like ".com", ".net", ".org" etc.. gTLDs are divided into "sponsored" and "unsponsored" TLDs. The "sponsored" TLDs (sTLDs) are managed and financed by autonomous organisations (sponsors), whereas the "unsponsored" TLDs (uTLDs) are under control of ICANN.

Local Presence
Consider a customer who wants to purchase a domain under a foreign TLD. Some countries disallow the direct  purchasing of domains from outside their country. In this case you will need a depositary (a local presence) to buy the domain for you. You will then have the administrative control for that domain.

Registrant

The registrant is the person who mandates the registrar to register a certain SLD for him. Hereby the registrant is the domain-holder and gets a temporary authorisation to use this SLD in a designated scope of application.

Registrar
The registrar is authorised to setup and change second level domains (SLDs). Normally an order, from somebody interested to purchase the SLD, forms the basis of this process.
Registry
The registry is an institution who is concerned with the TLD-administration. The registry provides all the services neccessary for the registration, assignment and the operation of TLDs. According to these tasks the registry stores no data about domain-holders, they only  hold data about domain name servers and the appropriate registrars.
Release
Publication of an extensively testet software product that has passed the quality control.

Second Level Domain 
The second level domain is the label directly to the left of the TLD. This means in "www. dominic.de"  "dominic" is call the SLD.
