Version Building

A version number consists of three parts e. g. 4.4.41 - 4718. Generally this number is composed as follows:

major-Release.minor-release.patch-level - build-number

The picture below explains the conventions arranged for DomiNIC® .

Defining version for DomiNIV4domains

The left most number denotes the release. We call it DomiNIC® Release 5 or DomiNIC® R5. This number increases only with fundamental innovations within the software.

The second to left number marks the version level. When a product is specified beyond release number we talk about a product version, i. e. DomiNIC® Version 5.1. Strictly speaking the version always comes along with the patch level, that means we talk about  Version 5.1.0. The version level increases when there are add ons to the software.

The third position from the left, called patch level is automatically increased when bug fixes were carried out and the version is released.

The build number is of minor importance for a user, this number counts the software compilations (builds) and it easily obtains 3- and 4-digit values in the course of software development.
