Wabnitz new chairman of Software Initiative Germany's "Internet Automation" panel

Munich, July 30, 2010 - The Sofware Initiative Deutschland e.V. (SID, www.softwareinitiative.dewww.softwareinitiative.de) has appointed the German Internet expert Sven-Holger Wabnitz chairman of the new study-group "Internet Automation". This new panel will focus on exploring the Internet-based automation of business processes. The head of the study-group is going to maintain his position as CEO of the software developer DomiNIC.

The first commercial launch of a domain management software for the domain name system (DNS) by the Internet entrepreneur Sven-Holger Wabnitz from Bonn, Germany, occurred in 1995. Before that -in 1994- the Internet pioneer was already appointed to the board of directors of the German Internet initiative Telemarkt eG. In 1997 Wabnitz contributed ideas to a widely noticed lecture on security issues that received a lot of attention at the first G7 conference of electronic commerce. Today he is actively engaged in establishing the DNSSEC norm (Domain Name System Security Extensions).

In addition to that, Wabnitz and his software business DomiNIC are currently in charge of a joint research project of the European Union and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the goal of which is to connect the real world global supply chain with the Internet. The central point of focus is the connection between the standardized electronic product code in RFID chips and the DNS database. As a result, any product would be traceable via DNS entries at any time. The vision: Any product -from food to clothes and on to appliances- receives a digital counterpart in the global data net. "The domain name system has a proven track record of serving as a working, scalable, stable and reliable backbone of the world wide web. Now is the time to transfer this backbone into other areas than the web", Wabnitz points out. Among experts, linking the product codes in RFID chips with the DNS database is hailed as "the next big thing". The goal is to accomplish broader benefits from the omnipresence of the Internet.

The Software Initiative Deutschland e.V. (SID) was founded to bring attention to the ever growing importance of software in people's professional and private lives. The initiative is supposed to serve as a discussion forum for experts as well as an educational resource for consumers.
